Australian Dollar opens lower

The Australian dollar opened lower this morning as the fallout from the US subprime mortgage crisis continues to have an impact on world markets.

The dollar began the day trading at $US0.8848/53, which was down almost a full cent from yesterday's closing price of 0.8936/41.
