Average aussie home loan tops $240,000

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today released figures showing that the average size of an Aussie home loan had risen to $240,300 in October 2007 from $239,400 in September.

The biggest mortgages are being taken out in New South Wales where the average was $262,800, ahead of Queensland at $240,900 with the Australian Capital Territory responsible for the third highest average mortgages at $239,600.

In other states the average mortgage was at $238,500 in Western Australia, $234,600 in Victoria, $194,200 in South Australia, $175,700 in Tasmania and $212,200 in the Northern Territory.
