Getting the banks to insure you
Banks can provide many insurance services, but while insurance for your possessions and assets is very important, insuring yourself in case of accidents is vital. Too often people choose to gamble on their well-being and the financial capability of their family. This is completely unreasonable, as there is insurance protection to cover almost any disaster that could befall you.
Travel insurance is advertised by travel agents and the government as necessary to taking overseas trips. A good rule of thumb is that you cannot afford to travel if you cannot afford travel insurance, but still there are individuals willing to risk their life by going without. No one denies that overseas travel can be fun, however, it is also much more dangerous than when you are at home. You may believe that you will be safe overseas because you are safe at home, but other countries may have diseases that have been wiped out in Australia, and you are much more likely to walk into dangerous areas as you will be unfamiliar or less familiar with the location you are travelling to. While you may not be able to stop bad things from happening to you, you can minimise the impact of them by taking out adequate travel insurance.
Health insurance is not always necessary in Australia, as Medicare provides well for the majority of Australians. However, even with Medicare rebates and aid, extended hospital visits can be very costly at a time when your family may be unable to easily afford them. You must also rely on a delayed health service, which could mean your condition worsens while you wait. Health insurance is a means of helping to ensure you will receive the best healthcare available with the greatest comfort.
Life insurance is something many people do not consider due to its relation to death, but this is an irresponsible attitude to take if you have dependants that relay on your income to get by. The death of a provider and loved one hurts emotionally more than financially. This can be exacerbated by the financial strain of a funeral, however, and life insurance can help to relive that strain. It's not morbid to plan for the possibility that you might die prematurely. It's merely a sensible precaution to ensure your family will always have a bright future ahead of them.
