Getting the most from banks

20 June 2008

Banks will often offer special discounts for customers who utilise several of their products, but this will not always necessitate the best deal overall. Many consumers who take out home loans with a particular bank will also be offered credit cards and a savings account, often without fees. Often this can be a good way of putting as much towards the home loan as possible. Other times, however, the credit card does not provide good enough value to help reduce interest charges.

Sometimes it's possible to negotiate with banks in order to get a better deal. It is better for banks to make less profit from you and keep a customer happy then to lose a customer and make nothing. If you believe that certain features of your credit card are not competitive, negotiating a better rate or more favourable interest free days is sometimes possible. Banks often have a range of credit cards, so they may even offer you an alternative free credit card to couple with your loan.

Please visit our credit cards and home loans pages to learn more about what you can get in these products from the banks.
