Negotiate for a better deal
Friday June 27, 2008
Banks are more willing to negotiate than you may believe. While banks will often offer the best deal they can to new customers, they will routinely offer nothing extra to existing customers. You can sometimes change this through negotiation with your bank.
Banks do not want to lose customers to the introductory offers of competing banks, so they will sometimes be willing to negotiate a better deal for you to stay with them rather than lose you to another institution. This can be an especially good tactic to use if you are generally inclined to change banks to take advantage of special offers, as you may sometimes need to slow this down in order to avoid jumping between banks too quickly. Often, you cannot be considered a new customer by a bank you have recently left until a few years have passed, meaning you could end up being stuck on the worst deals if you change banks too frequently.
