ANZ Bank to cut 500 jobs
Tuesday March 17, 2009
ANZ Bank has announced that it will begin outsourcing 500 back-office jobs to India, meaning 500 Australian jobs will be lost by the end of 2009. The bank announced that the majority of jobs lost will be within the technology and back office operations roles.
The ANZ Bank further announced that only it's Australian and New Zealand call centres would remain open following Australian finance workers demand guarantees from the Federal Government that only banks deposit accounts keep jobs within Australia. This comes after the Finance Sector Union asked that banks need to keep banking jobs within Australia in order to receive any form of financial assistance from the government.
This financial assistance is from the Federal Government's $700 billion guarantee program for deposits that will support Australian-owned banks, building societies and credit unions over the next three years.
