Torrens Title

A Torrens title is the simplest and most common form of property ownership in Australia. In a Torrens title, registration on the Certificate of Title entitles you to full ownership of the property, without any other requirements. However, a Torrens title is not a reliable form of security, as there is always the possibility of encumbrances overlooked during the issuance. The title is issued by the Registrar General and usually secured by the State government. It is named after its creator Sir Robert Torrens, Premier of South Australia, in 1858.
